The great gluten free turkey list

FOR THE MOST UPDATED VERSION OF THIS LIST,

PLEASE SEEĀ  THIS 2010 List

Here’s a list of information from many major brands of turkey. Fresh, plain turkeys that are not stuffed are naturally gluten free, too. This list was last updated Sept 12th 2008. Please let me know if there are any broken links!

Butterball
800-288-8372
http://www.butterball.com/

Per Butterball on Sept 12, 2008:
“Thank you for contacting us about more information regarding Butterball turkey and allergens. Since the ingredient you are asking about is one of the “Big 8” allergens (wheat, eggs, soy, milk, fish, shellfish, peanuts and tree nuts), the USDA requires that this ingredient must be listed on the ingredient statement on the package when it is in the food. Because product formulations can change at any time, we encourage our consumers to check the ingredient statement on each package they purchase for the most up-to-date information on the ingredients contained in that product. Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with a list of the specific ingredients in the flavorings because this is proprietary information. We only have 3 products that contain gluten. They are the stuffed turkeys, the gravy packet with the little butterball and the rotisserie deli meat. All of our other products are gluten free.”

Cheryl’s note: As you well know, gluten is NOT one of the big 8 and the fact that a customer service representative provided inaccurate info for the third 3rd year running gives me concerns about their awareness of the needs for a gluten free diet.

Honeybaked Ham

The Honey Baked Ham office in Georgia reports that as of November 1st, 2007, their glaze is made without any gluten. However, as of May 10, 2008, the website still states that their products contain gluten. According to HBH staff, they are not updating the website yet because some frozen hams on shelves do still contain gluten from before the switch. Numerous places also report that only some branches of HBH are GF, so please proceed with caution!!!(updated May 10, 2008)
